Chinese dissidents miss out on Nobel peace prize

Finland\'s ex-president Martti Ahtisaari received the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his efforts to build a lasting peace from Africa and Asia to Europe and the Middle East.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it honored Ahtisaari for important efforts over more than three decades to resolve international conflicts.

\"These efforts have contributed to a more peaceful world and to \'fraternity between nations\' in Alfred Nobel\'s spirit,\" the committee said in announcing the prize.

Three U.S.-based scientists won a Nobel Prize on Wednesday for turning a glowing green protein from jellyfish into a revolutionary way to watch the tiniest details of life within cells and living creatures.

Osamu Shimomura, a Japanese citizen who works in the United States, and Americans Martin Chalfie and Roger Tsien shared the chemistry prize for discovering and developing green fluorescent protein, or GFP.

Cyrus celebrated the hallmark birthday at an over-the-top Disneyland celebration Sunday _ even though she doesn\'t actually turn 16 until Nov. 23.
